With the world finally starting to open up, this summer looks set to be a big one (fingers crossed). Music festivals, sporting events, days out with friends, the good times are on their way and we’re absolutely here for it! There are so many exciting things to do, but as in life, not all of them come cheap. For many young people, now’s the time to start looking for that summer job. Nothing too heavy or hard-hitting, it is the summer after all, but a nice part-time role with a great employer, giving you the financial freedom to really enjoy yourself.
Now, if this were 2010, you might be thinking of typing up a CV and hitting your local high street, going from door to door to ask the staff members if they’re hiring at the moment. Whilst this approach could still work, the likelihood is that your CV will be “passed onto the manager” and sit in a folder for months on end, alongside the hundreds of other copies collected over the years. Fortunately, it’s 2021 and things have moved on from paper resumés and wordy cover letters…
What if we told you that you can now get a summer job by recording a quick video on your phone, introducing yourself to camera and explaining why you’d make a great employee? No stress worrying about spelling errors or misused punctuation, just a 60-second video presenting your true, authentic self to an employer that really appreciates the effort. This is the process used on a new job-seeking app called ‘gigl’.
The team at gigl have just launched a new initiative, the Summer Job Project, with the sole purpose of helping young people like you find work for the summer. It’s completely free to sign up and you’ll get all the support you need in finding exactly the sort of job you’re looking for. Here’s how it works:
Step 1:
Create a job seeker account on the gigl app for free. You can download the app here.
Step 2:
Once you’ve signed up, tap on the Summer Job Project at the top of app’s homepage.
Step 3:
Watch the introduction video found at the top of the Summer Job Project page. Here’s where you’ll get some friendly guidance on what to include in your application video.
Step 4:
Tap the ‘Apply’ button to record and send in your 60-second video, outlining who you are, where you’re based, what sort of job you’re looking for and why you’d make a great employee.
Once your video’s been submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email and will be assigned to a Mentor from gigl who will keep you updated on the progress of your application. The gigl team will then reach out to relevant employers on your behalf, getting your video in front of active hiring managers who are looking for someone just like you!
The moment an employer says they’d like to offer you a role, your gigl Mentor will help to arrange your trial shift or interview, supporting you all the way to the day you start!
As you may have discovered, job seeking can be a frustrating and time-consuming process. That’s precisely the reason gigl exists, to bring this process into the 21st century, making job seeking fast, friendly and even a little fun for everyone involved!
If you’d like any more information on the Summer Job Project or the gigl app, please reach out to hello@getgigl.com. Their friendly team are always on hand to answer any questions and will help you get started on the platform.
Best of luck and have great summer!
